Cicada - Platypedia

Cicada - Platypedia
Martinez, Contra Costa County, California, USA
May 20, 2012
Size: ~2cm
These little cicada have appeared in the yard; calling from native oaks, crabapples, Washington Thorn and even the neighbors magnolia. Unlike the loud buzzing of the Okanagana I hear out in the wildlands these just make a clicking sound, occasionally a couple per second but usually less then 1 per second. Unfortunately any time I got close enough to shoot video they went quiet.

Take a look at Platypedia (just a guess)

yes they are
Platypedia group

thanks
Must be pretty good fliers to infiltrate my little corner of suburbia. Went 20+ years without hearing the clicks.
