Dragonfly - Hagenius brevistylus

Dragonfly - Hagenius brevistylus
Sandfeild , Manitoulin Island, Ontario, Canada
July 13, 2008
It was freshly moulted. Looks like a Rusty Snaketail Dragonfly only the tail is green rather than rusty brown.
Found on Manitoulin Island, Ontario, Canada. Was found near a lake/river(both were there) during the summer.

Looks like a teneral Dragonhunter to me. Could you crop the image a bit closer to the dragonfly? Thanks.

Do those Dragonflies live that far north in Ontario though?

Yes

Will colour up in a while.
Oh nice!
I would say it is a Snaketail. The colours will darken up over the next 24 hours or so. It is so tenneral (fresh) that it has not developed its true colours yet. I'm not sure it is a Rusty as I'm not seeing any yellow on S8 and S9...maybe a Maine Snaketail if you have them up there.
