Melanoplus differentialis
This is most likely a Differential grasshopper, Melanoplus differentialis. Most likely 3rd or 4th instar judging by the size of the wings - visible yet still rather small.

Leaning strongly
toward
M. bivittatus
. The "heringbone" pattern on the hind femur of
M. differentialis
is usually much bolder and crosses further to the lower half of the hind femur. Occasional individuals of both species can be very similar and difficult to tell apart though. It is last instar (usually the last is 5th, sometimes 6th), notice that the wing pads are relatively large and will touch in the middle at the top (or nearly so).

Spur-throated Nymph, I Think...
...maybe something in the
Melanoplus
genus...some two-lined
(Melanoplus bivittatus)
babies look rather like this, although the size sounds a tad small. Pretty far along...just a molt or two away from adulthood...and I think it's a female--this grasshopper just looks 'feminine' to me for some inexplicable reason! :D
