Ochlerotatus triseriatus - Ochlerotatus hendersoni - female

Ochlerotatus triseriatus - Ochlerotatus hendersoni - Female
Cranston, Providence County, Rhode Island, USA
July 17, 2006
The red in her abdomen is my blood. The black is someone elses blood that has been in her for no more than two days. It is black because of digestion by her. Soon my blood will become that color. She is biting twice, because it seems she didnt get enough protein from her first bloodmeal.

Amazing photos!
Maybe the black the blood of something else, unless it really is a human obligate. Or maybe it was your blood...Thanks for sharing.

good question
I meant something or someone. But Oc. triseriatues is one of the few mosquitos that will get blood from mammals, bird, reptiles, and amphibians.

Thanks for the compliments Richard
