House Spider?

House Spider?
Just outside of Lubbock, Lubbock County, Texas, USA
May 27, 2012
Size: Body approx 1/8 to 1/4 in
I think this is some species of house spider, but am wondering which one. The trim it is in front of is 1 inch wide. It is actually a little lighter that it looks in the picture, light tan with darker markings on the cephalothorax and abdomen, and yellowish brown legs that are almost translucent. The dark spots on the legs are just before and after each joint, none between. The marking on the cephalothorax looks like an upside down bottle. There is light reflecting off of the eyes in this picture, so those two spots are not normal. During the day they tend to be hidden under furniture, but at night they are out in small tangled webs that are not sticky, or crawling over the walls.

Cellar Spider (Pholcidae)
I'm not sure what you mean by house spider. Common names can often lead to confusion in the 'bug' world. These are known as good house spiders because occasionally they kill other spiders like black widows.

Many thanks! We have always had these spiders where we live, and I have always wanted to know exactly what they were. Now I know!
