Episyron nest about to be parasited - Evagetes - female

Episyron nest about to be parasited - Evagetes - Female
Essex, Ontario, Canada
July 13, 2006
Size: 7 mm
Episyron quinquenotatus digs nest at 5:57 and finishes by 6:11pm. By 6:26, the Evagetes (probably padrinus as Nick suggested) is eating her egg. She lays her own egg on the spider. Annoyed with my clicking at 6:29pm she completely buries herself in the hole and does not emerge until 6:34pm. Backfills until 6:40pm.

Doddlebugs
I hope I'm not boring everyone, but I forgot to mention that Mrs. Epi stopped burrowing and abandoned her last spider. She was quite annoyed by Doddlebugs (Antlion larva) who, every year, dig in her nest area.

Wow!
I don't blame her for feeling that way! :) I too would be annoyed if doddlebugs kept digging in my nest area! I have babies to feed for god sakes! :)
