Separated - Efferia - female

Separated - Efferia - Female
Waterford, New London County, Connecticut, USA
August 11, 2005
Separated Kyle Pias double image into two separate images so Herschel can move them to the proper places in the guide.

Kyle's original comment:
Just some of the common robberflies around my house. The one on the left is female and the right is male (if Im wrong let me know) I assume theyre from the same species, and I was hoping someone could tell me what species exactly. I appreciate the help. From the guide my guess was Efferia aestuans, but verification is appreciated.

Martin Hauser commented:
The female on the left is a Machimus sp. while the male on the right is an Efferia according to Eric Fisher.
This image is the "female on the left."

Moved
Moved from Machimus.

Efferia
This is actually an Efferia female after all. You can see the characteristically long ovipositor and more importantly, the stump vein coming off the base of the r4.
