Unknown Spider - Amaurobius ferox

Unknown Spider - Amaurobius ferox
Ontario, Canada
I don't believe this is a recluse as it lacks the violin shape on the body.

Moved
Moved from Hacklemesh Weavers. There are only a few species of Amaurobius in Ontario, and this one only looks like Amaurobius ferox, an imported species from Europe that is now pretty common in SE Canada and eastern USA. This one is a juvenile male.

not a recluse
They dont occur in Canada. Remeber that recluses only have six eyes instead of eight. Also, the violin shape is on the head (cephalothorax) not the abdomen. This is a male spider in the family Amaurobiidae, genus Coras. They are harmless to humans.

here is a recluse for reference:

Don't think it is Coras, either.
I agree with the family identification (Amaurobiidae), but this resembles Amaurobius or Callobius in my experience.

recluse
yeah, I didn't think it was a recluse. I was interested in what type it was as we don't normally have spiders around the house that size.
I have found recently a few baby spiders similar to this one. All of them have been relocated as I hate killing things. Although many friends have commented how nice it would be smushed. Laughs

Thanks for the info!
