wasp, possibly Scolia (family Scoliidae) - Scolia nobilitata

wasp, possibly Scolia (family Scoliidae) - Scolia nobilitata
near the coast, Delaware, USA

Moved
Moved from Campsomeris. As John says, below, this is Scolia nobilitata.

Scoliidae
Looks like a scoliid, but probably something like Campsomeris instead of Scolia. This is a really tough family.

this is Scolia nobilitata
actually species IDs of Scoliidae are easier than those for most other Hymenopteran families

Looks like NC species, ?C. quadrimaculata?
This looks like a lateral view of a common wasp here in NC:

If it's Campsomeris, it is probably C. quadrimaculata. It is pretty common in NCSU collection. (See my comments to above photo.)

Scolia nobilitata?
This small wasp (compare flowers) is looking like what a couple of us believe to be Scolia nobilitata. That image I linked above is now identified as such--see the guide page for references.
