Monarch Larva - 1st Day - Danaus plexippus

Monarch Larva - 1st Day - Danaus plexippus
Manlius, Onondaga County, New York, USA
June 28, 2006
This is a caterpillar I found as an egg late last month. I photographed it's progress, for the most part. Today it's just about ready to emerge as an adult.

There doesn't seem to be very many photos of early Monarch larva development, so I'm going to upload a five-day series.

Cool. I have some hatching as I type. So tiny. Good to know they grow so fast.
