Really Warn Moth - Halysidota tessellaris

Really Warn Moth - Halysidota tessellaris
Chicago, Illinois, USA
July 19, 2006
This moth was so warn I thought it had red wings (I saw it on the hood of a red car) Then I noticed it was just really warn, and very docile. I scoped it in to my hand and in to a cup, it made no attempt to fly. I took a couple shots then set it out side.
I did notice that close up it has blue hairs close to the head, and it's body has real long tan/orangeish hairs. I've seen furry haired moths before but this one is the first I could discribe as just hairy.

Very Worn
This appear to be It is hard to say for certain since your moth has lost many of its scales. Yes, they are very hairy at times.
