Forked Fungus Beetle? - Bolitotherus cornutus

Forked Fungus Beetle? - Bolitotherus cornutus
Dixon, Phelps County, Missouri, USA
July 19, 2006
Size: 9mm
I found this in my living room, but we do have a woodpile outside on the porch. I'm hoping it came from there. Do I need to worry about it coming in? Does that mean I have mold or something that's attracting it?

Right Again
You're right again. There is at least one similar species, but you have the real thing here. Now keep an eye out for the hornless female so you'll have a matched set of photos.

Yikes!
It looks so large in the photo. I guess it's rather small though (9mm)

Its carapace reminds me of the shell of a Snapping Turtle. I'm not familiar with this species so I cannot answer your question. Great photo!

size
He was just slightly under a centimeter, but I could have the size wrong. He definitely looks bigger in the pictures than he did when He was here.
