Small black cicada with red-orange markings - Platypedia

Small black cicada with red-orange markings - Platypedia
Orilla Verde Recreation Area, Taos County, New Mexico, USA
June 7, 2012
Size: 25-30 mm?
This one was silent (and very cooperative), but I'll swear this was the same species I saw clicking in bushes and low branches of trees, with a wing flick for each click or tick. They're all over the place in juniper scrub and riparian woods, altitude something like 1800–1900 m.

Moved from Cicadas.

Platypedia
sorry, don't know the southern species

Thanks to both.
I see from your comments here that I could have identified this genus from the parallel sides of the pronotum or from the wing-clicking.
