Larva

Larva
Radford, Virginia, USA
June 8, 2012
I'd like an ID, please.
This larva (and several other smaller ones) was in sap(?) at the base of a Quercus sp. tree. A fly, a carrion beetle, a clearwing moth, and several butterflies were also interested in the liquid that sometimes bubbled. Can you please explain?

fermenting sap attracts diverse beetle fauna
i've seen up to three dozen beetle spp. or more (not counting the staphs) at a single oozing tree wound.
the large one looks like a tenebrionoid of sorts, but i can't hazard a guess past that; the smaller plump warty greyish thing at the forefront looks like a nitidulid larva.

Moved from Beetles.

I've added one more image.
This one was taken at the same oozing spot. Do you recognize any of these?
Should I have posted this as a separate image?
Thanks for the info about the larva I submitted originally.

I could be wrong, but this reminds me of a beetle larva.

Thanks,
Charley, I appreciate that info!
