Birch Dagger Moth - Acronicta betulae

A birch dagger moth that showed up near an incandescent light on my back porch. It was way up above the windows (hence the weird angle and lack of focus). I've tried zooming in and I really don't get what that dark spot is on the head. ID by Hugh McGuinness.
