Moved from Melanoplus.

This is a Red-legged Grasshopper
Melanoplus femurrubrum. Very hard to tell from M. sanguinipes sometimes. There are several elements of the pattern of this one that are typical of M. femurrubrum, but it's hard to quantify them.

Looks like a Migratory Grassh
Looks like a Migratory Grasshopper (Melanoplus sanguinipies) to me. The way the dark bands on the legs to not wrap all the way around the leg, the lack of highlights accentuating the herringbone pattern on the legs, and the black stripe behind the eyes ending well before the wings (also, not a solid, thick stripe) makes me think this isn't a Red-legged Grasshopper (Melanoplus femurrubrum). It could be another species, such as Northern Grasshopper (Melanoplus borealis), but my initial impression when I saw this picture was that it is a Migratory Grasshopper.
