Blister Beetle - Nemognatha nemorensis

Blister Beetle - Nemognatha nemorensis
Canton, Norfolk County, Massachusetts, USA
July 7, 2006
Size: 6.8mm

Meloidae: Nemognatha nemorensis
A good find. They started appearing in New Hampshire (to the best of my knowledge) last year. Two Maine coleopterists collected them in Maine this summer. If you still have it, I would like it.

I didn't keep it
but I'll look for another, as I've seen them before.
There's already another image on the species page that looks very different. Is that the same species as this?

N. nemorensis
is correct. I checked at Harvard today, and they had a few specimens. The specimen that Robin placed as N. nemorensis is not correct, and in fact looked to my unstudied eye pretty similar to the Zonitis bilineata in the HU collection. This is a very rare meloid in our area (Harvard only had 5 from Florida!), apparently moving north no doubt due to global warming.

They do
not look the same to me. Robin's id wasn't particularly forceful. But I could be wrong also. I keyed out our NH specimen in Arnett & Downie, but it wasn't a smooth ride.
