Probably Checked White (male)
I'm seeing a lot of these recently, often on mustard as yours is. If you're in Orange County, email me, as I'm shooting about every day.

I think
I took this one in the San Bernardino National Forest. I am not in California any more. I was about 2 weeks ago.

So the eagle has returned to the nest
Boy, you were busy out here, soaring with the butterflies. With butterflies, location is very important, plus it's relatively easy to get lists (USGS) by county.
After checking Butterflies Through Binoculars, I'm confident I made the right call. There are also a Spring White, Becker's White, and perhaps Mustard White in the area. I haven't seen any of these in the flesh(scales?), but none looks remotely like yours. Only other white is Cabbage, and that isn't it.
