springtail - Lepidocyrtus paradoxus

springtail - Lepidocyrtus paradoxus
Cross Plains, Dane County, Wisconsin, USA
June 16, 2012
There seems to be a lot of color variation in this species.

Lepidocyrtus paradoxus
Indeed the habitus colour of alive specimens is quite variable, given the colour we see is the result of iridisation effects of the environmental light in the thin transparant scales that cover the body of Lepidocyrtus species. The colour changes depending on the nature of the light (flash, sun), and on the angle of viewing. All kind of rainbow color effects may appear.
