Melanactes sp. - Melanactes - female

Melanactes sp. - Melanactes - Female
Hancock County, Indiana, USA
June 16, 2012
Size: 21 mm
Found in nearby woodlot resting on the lower trunk of a small tree (~2 inch diameter), maybe about a foot or so off the ground.

Comparing against the species I have, it seems closest to M. puncticollis in pronotal proportions and elytral sculpture. I'll probably send this to Blaine at some point for him to check.

for big showy beetles, these guys aren't easy. I have Mathieu's revision. Genitalia doesn't do anything for these guys. I've already written the section of my work on these guys, so I am more confident with them now :) I am sure I made some errors early on tho...
