Unknown bug - Scutigera coleoptrata

Unknown bug - Scutigera coleoptrata
Ontario, Canada
July 22, 2006
I've seen a couple of these in my basement apartment. Was wondering what they were and any other information about them.

Sick question
Okay saw the whole benefit of eating bugs and not biting people but sadly I fear no bug simply the idea that one night they'll either crawl on or in me...If you've seen broken paradise or whatever much bigger bugs but she had to go to the hospital because they like laid eggs umm not mentioning, but I have had the fear ever since. Like I can't help but smush spiders on impulse because of the whole avg person eats....amount a year. Are there any cases stating these bugs are parasites, living off of animals/people/etc.

WOW!!!
The other day i saw one in my tub so i try to drund it.Then it started to swim around like a snake. So i caught it and put it outside.

House centipede
ok i cant get a straight answer on these things i have heard thier fangs cannot penetrate human skin and i have heard the bit is equivalent to a bee sting though they rarely bite

Ooh ...
That's a House Centipede (Scutigeridae). I have a lot of them in my home too. Because they love humidity, basements are great hiding places for these fast-running centipedes. Sort of makes one jump when the bigger ones (body 50mm or more) dash out from seemingly nowhere! http://bugguide.net/node/view/11843. Oh, Craig beat me to it! :P

hiya
Thanks both. I thought that's what they were and I made a rule for them. If they stay out of my site they live. If I'm leaving the house and I see one, it lives, if it freaks me out or scares me it dies. So far we have mutual respect... laughs with a BUG!
I like seeing them sometimes when I notice a spider or two too many. So am glad to be sure that they kill those off. I know my place has spiders, never seen a roach. So it's good to know I have bug hunters killin off scarier things.

It's a house centipede. They

stung by a house centipede
i've heard it's supposed to be like a bee sting, but it actually burned like crazy for 2 days, then it caused a blister which finally become an open wound till that healed. I like insects, i study them all the time, but this one just... Eeks me.
