Mosquito - Ochlerotatus atropalpus - female

Mosquito - Ochlerotatus atropalpus - Female
Dixville, Coos County, New Hampshire, USA
July 18, 2006

I am going to say this one is
I am going to say this one is Ochlerotatus atropalpus and we will see what Omar has to say (He is better with Northeast mosuitoes).
Key choices I made (from Darsie and Ward):
1)pale bands apically and basally on hindtarsomeres->28
2)pale scales on anterior wing veins, postprocoxal scale patch absent (you can actually see this!)->31
3)not togoi, of course->32
4)patch of pale scales at base of costa, brown median stripe->34
5)hindtarsomere 1-2 pale rings subequal, palps mostly dark (that is one judgement call)->35
Once you are to 35, Oc. atropalpus fits by range (actually, going to 36 would have been a bad move, as all those species are Western species)

Come on Sean,
you brought me into this business in the first place. But, YES!, we have a new one. I agree with Oc. atropalpus. You can see all the important parts, even the median stripe on the scutum. Great work Tom and Sean. Also good thing you didnt let her bite you Tom, A mosquito tested positive for EEE in Danville, NH on Thursday (Other New England states with either a positive EEE or WNV: Mass, and CT).

Ill update the info page.

She didn't bite me
The mosquitoes were really badand I was getting bitten, so I used repellant. I guess I'll start spraying more often. Thanks for the info Omar.
