small ant-mimic wasp - Encyrtus aurantii

small ant-mimic wasp - Encyrtus aurantii
Ripton, Addison County, Vermont, USA
July 13, 2006
Size: 2.5mm
I found this on a flower, and when I collected it to photograph at home, I thought it was an ant. I finally figured out that it was a wasp when I took it out after chilling, and on the fourth picture I was taking, it suddenly dissapeared. I realized it wasn't an ant, and that it flew off.

Moved
Moved from Encyrtids.

Encyrtus aurantii
(=E. bicolor Howard) I believe.

marvelous. thanks again, Don.

Encyrtidae sp.
Very nice photo. We may have had this species identified by John Noyes years ago, but will have to forage through the collection to find out - eventually, if no one else places it further.

Encyrtid
I see I photographed one in this family before, but a different species. Thanks Don!!!
