Robber 4 - Lampria bicolor - female

Robber 4 - Lampria bicolor - Female
Gloster, Gloster Arboretum, Amite County, Mississippi, USA
July 14, 2006
Size: body length10.8 mm.
At first we did not even suspect that this could be an asilid. After much web-searching and a finally checking the fine key on Herschel Raney's website for wing venation, we conclude that it is a Lampria sp.
Is it possible to ID to species?

Nice work on the key. This is Lampria bicolor. We (and you) have only two species. The other has yellowish tibias on the forelegs and is L. rufiventris.

I am going to link these shots to the species. I don't expect anyone will take any better ones. Ever.
