Physocephala sp? - Physocephala sagittaria

Physocephala sp? - Physocephala sagittaria
Dismal Swamp State Park, Camden County, North Carolina, USA
June 26, 2012
I'm pretty sure this is a Physocephala sp., but not sure which species. Any help would be appreciated.

Moved from Conopinae.

The dark discal cell separates this from the in many ways similar looking species P. marginata.

I was thinking this dark brown individual of P. sagittaria might correspond to what Loew described as Conops genualis, see this BHL link. But the description there gave color of the scutellum as blackish brown and the face yellow. The scutellum here is red and it looks like the face is somewhat whitish. So this may be some other form of the rather variable P. sagittaria . (Six previous names are under synonymy there, and presumably there are intermediate between them.)
