Wasp - Tiphia

Wasp - Tiphia
Fairfield, Wayne County, Illinois, USA
July 15, 2006
This hairy wasp was probing the detrius in my compost bin.

Tiphia.
This is a female tiphiid wasp, most likely in the genus Tiphia. She was looking for a scarab beetle grub upon which to lay an egg.

Thanks
Eric. Moved to Genus page.
