Lophocampa mixta?
That seems to be it by my guess! I'll have to look at its description and especially range to be sure.
Update: Its distribution is in the right location, and, although I'm unsure why the ones where you can see their head have less "fuzz," I did see the less hairy ones as well on a recent trip. That ID seems to be it, thank you John and Jane!

Hmmm...
I'm not sure about that one; the caterpillars for Apatelodes pudefacta seem to have brown at least somewhere and are more slender compared to this one, in my opinion. I'd need to look into it a bit more, and thanks for the lead!
