Michael,

did you collect the specimen by any chance? Even of N. arabesca I don't have particularly many specimens (2 F, 1 M).

Moved from Spiders.

At this point we've only found adult males of N. arabesca to have this lighter pattern & carapace. N. crucifera is much darker with less pattern. Here is the image we base our IDs of N. crucifera on.

Pedipalp
I'm just going by what little I can see of the pedipalp (cf. fig. 376-377 in Dondale & Redner 2003). Another (lateral) view would be a big help.

But maybe you're right. I just took a look at my one and only male arabesca specimen. I can arrive at a silhouette of the pedipalp that is just close enough to the photo here that I can't be certain. And the lighter leg coloration is also very similar. The detail in Michael's photo is just not clear enough.

Based on the little bit of what can see of the pedipalp, I'm more inclined toward N. crucifera, but the angle is not so helpful. (A lateral/sideways view of the palp would be better.)

Male Neoscona
Looks like N. arabesca, but wait for Lynette.
