I didn't get a very good picture before it flew away but this is my first dragonfly photo, so I thought I'd try to get it identified anyway.

This is in the genus Aeshna
Maybe one of the dragonfly experts will be able to tell you which one.

I've moved mine to the Aeshna genus page but I wonder if it will turn out to be an Aeshna canadensis?

The dragonflies around here seem to be flying all the time. I was beginning to think that none of them ever landed. But then I spotted this one taking a rest. :)
