Beetle - Chauliognathus marginatus

Beetle - Chauliognathus marginatus
The Woodlands, Montgomery County, Texas, USA
July 22, 2006
Although this looks to me like a plant bug, I think it's a beetle because it has more than four antennae segments. Am I correct? That's as far as I get. Can anyone help me ID this beautiful beetle?

It's a soldier beetle
and I believe it's Chauliagnus marginatus, as it has the band on the center of the pronotum that's distinctive (compare below) - unless Texas has a similar one of which I'm not aware. This is one of the handsomest I've seen, and a beautiful shot.

Thanks, Hannah
for the help and info. It does look like the image you thumbnailed. I'll move to the guide for the Texas info.
