Green Recluse? - Peucetia viridans - male

Green Recluse? - Peucetia viridans - Male
Rancho Cucamonga, San Bernardino County, California, USA
July 26, 2006
Size: 1.5 inches leg span
Found this spider sitting on the outside of the house about 6 feet up. At first I thought it was a brown recluse due to the violin shape on its head, but in better light it is obviously green! I would assume it is some form of recluse. This spider is HUGE and very brave. I had the camera right up close to get these pictures and it barely even moved.

Moved from Western variations.

Nothing to worry about
- I'm pretty sure it's a green lynx spider. Very common, harmless to humans. Here's our info page.

Thanks!
I believe you hit it spot on! I wasn't really concerned for my safety; I just happen to notice what looked like a violin on its head. There are not supposed to be any brown recluses in my area so I took the photo. With the flash the green color came out (it looked brown in the dim light). Thanks so much for your ID!
