Eastern Dobsonfly - Corydalus cornutus
Could this be an Eastern Dobsonfly - Corydalus cornutus

Female Eastern Dobsonfly
Be careful with this one. The male has long pincers and is rendered harmless. The female, however, delivers a very nasty and painful bite.

Femalel Eastern Dobsonfly
Thank you for identifying this and the warning about the female biting. It was found outside a local pub which is close to the LaChute River. (The Lachute is a rather fast flowing river which connects Lake George and Lake Champlain flows through Ticonderoga, NY.) We'll "warn" the pub owner in case any more are found near their outside deck.

On the other hand
On the other hand, don't go overboard with the warnings. It wouldn't be worth spraying a lot of pesticides, etc. These insects are very unaggressive and have no interest whatever in humans. I am sure the rare case of bites happen when a human tries to pick them up. Leave well enough alone and the patrons will be fine.
