New Jersey Caterpillar - Acronicta americana

New Jersey Caterpillar - Acronicta americana
Edison, Middlesex County, New Jersey, USA
July 27, 2006
Size: 1-1/2 inches long
My daughters found this in the yard. Overnight it promptly spun itself into a cocoon. Any idea on what this is? What is it going to be?

Has the look of American Dagger Moth,
Acronicta americana, with those two pairs of black lashes near the front and single black tuft at the back.
