Member of Laphria canis complex - Laphria canis - Female
Fews Ford section, Eno River State Park, Orange County, North Carolina, USA
July 3, 2006
Size: circa 12 mm
This petite robber allowed close approach. Size guess-timated. It looks to be dining on a tumbling flower beetle. Is this a Laphria canis? I'm not quite clear how to recognize that group and differentiate it from some other small, dark robbers.

Female
Difficult to separate canis females from sicula and winnemana. Males have the much larger terminal genitalic bulb. L sicula and winneman require a scope to separate from each other.

Thanks, complex
I think we have everything filed under "Laphria canis complex" here. So sicula and winneman would be part of that I presume?

I'll move to the complex unless you think that is a real faux pas.

Thanks, as always. We'd almost all be lost in Robber-land without you.
