Swamp cicada
These are quite common and usually heard in teh morning.
The call is a rapid chatter which rises and falls.

This is the eastern form with red lateral coloration on the mesonotum, a trait not unusual in a percentage of females, ...less often seen in males. Most populations in the higher areas of the state and west are characterized by more black and rarely as colorful.
