Florida Beach Bug

Florida Beach Bug
Mexico Beach, Bay County, Florida, USA
July 9, 2012
Size: 1-1.5 inches
I've seen these for years all along the Florida Gulf Coast. They general reside on rocks near the water rather than on the sand. They are quick as lightning (forgive the poor picture, they don't let you get very close!). When you get near, they scatter like roaches but I estimate they aren't closely related.

Cropped and moved for expert attention.
Moved from ID Request.
