Looper Moth? - Datana perspicua
Adams, caught on the edge of a web, Gage County, Nebraska, USA
July 9, 2012
My elder son rescued this gorgeous moth from the edge of a spider web. The moth is bigger than my bi-lobed loopers, but acts the same. Sat nicely for phoots for a while, and then started buzzing his wings, which lent me pics of underwings, and then he flew. Son got him out the door.

Datana
Thank you for the compliment. :) Most of the time when I photograph insects it is like that. This moth was so polite to sit on my fingers long enough for a series of photos, then he started buzzing his wings, which I had to photograph as well. :) After he took off, my son caught and released him. I love moths!

Datana
We live about a block from the country and the whole town is only eight or so blocks long. There is a big stand of sumac near the south end of town. I'll have to look for the caterpillars if the heat ever allows it. Thanks for your help.
