Probably Neivamyrmex nigresce
Probably Neivamyrmex nigrescens but hard to be sure from just this one shot.

 
This is the one
that was close to night-active ants that could have been the workers, they looked like the ones on bugguide.

 
That would make perfect sense
That would make perfect sense. This species commonly flies this time of year and the workers are commonly active on the surface when conditions are right.
