Name
In 1959, a linguist named Pearson Hopper wrote a paper titled
The Pronunciation and Derivation of the Names of Genera and Subgenera of the Family Ichneumonidae Found in America North of Mexico
, Proceedings of the Entomological Society of Washington 61 (4): 155-172. If I had a copy of this paper, it has been misplaced, and the only thing I have to refer to is the errant scanned version

. Comparing what I read there with the 1978 redescription of the genus by Townes & Townes, I presume the name
Diradops
to be a Greek name referring to a ridge on the face of species of the genus. That description says: "Face with a median vertical ridge that is often high and conspicuous but sometimes low and rounded."

At first I thought this might be the male of
Lymeon orbus
, but in the male of that species the hind tibia is only weakly infuscate apically and the hind coxa has a black mark.
