Large Cicada - Megatibicen grossus
Upson County, Georgia, USA
June 22, 2012
Size: 45mm
I have seen several of these showing up at my lightsheet over the past month. They are quite a bit larger than the other cicadas that I commonly see around here.

Moved from ID Request.

Tibicen auletes!
This is the largest cicada here in the eastern USA.

The call of the males can be described as a rapid "Dirr...Dirrr....Dirrrr..." with a wind down "rrrrrrrrrrrr"
