Scorpionfly - Panorpa acuta - female

Scorpionfly - Panorpa acuta - Female
Paddy Knob area, Bath County, Virginia, USA
June 18, 2005
Size: 1-11/4"
There is a key to the wings of Panorpa of Ontario at Panorpa P. acuta is my best guess. The species summary at the same site says they were known from the Appalachian Mountains, which works for my bug, so I haven't explored range any further. There is also a lateral shot of a teneral P. acuta which also matches up pretty well.

There appear to be several species on the genus page. It'll be interesting to see how they sort out.

I agree with your choice
of P. acuta after comparing photos and info on the site you linked to. Both images moved from Panorpa to new species page.
