not far off - they are closely related,
but this one is Circotettix undulatus. Trimerotropis leucophaea is probably not found in that area, though it's distribution is still poorly defined due to past confusion with other blue-winged species (it is closely related to, and similar to both T. sparsa and T. cyaneipennis[/i].

Yours is from an area where C. undulatus and C. shastanus intergrade, and you can find all sorts of wing colors from bright yellow to bright blue (lots of greens). The wing venation that is supposed to tell them apart isn't reliable there either. Since this one is blue with a double 2nd anal vein, it defaults to C. undulatus. I've been wanting to come and look at them in that area again, but haven't been able to come at the right time since 1980. Maybe this year??? (probably not)

As currently defined Circotettix species have wider wings with much thicker veins than Trimerotropis species, and that is the easiest way to tell them apart. Things may get reshuffled soon though; leucophaea and undulatus may end up in the same genus.

Moved from Inyo Blue-wing Grasshopper.
