Eristalinus taeniops
This beauty looks like Eristalinus taeniops from Africa, which was introduced into Florida, I'm not sure if this is known from the West Coast! Gret pictures.

Thanks so much. I like the ones that sneak in. (One true bug I found may have come in a shipment of tiles from Italy, according to a comment on Bug Guide. I found it in a place where expensive homes were being built.)

This is one of two critters I really wanted identified, and I'm quite glad you came through once again. I enjoyed taking these shots and am pleased with the results. Best guess is that I took more than fifty photos, once the fly and I settled down.
