Xenox tigrinus (?) emerging from carpenter bee tunnel - Xenox tigrinus

Xenox tigrinus (?) emerging from carpenter bee tunnel - Xenox tigrinus
Morris, Grundy County, Illinois, USA
July 18, 2012
Size: approx. one inch
I watched this fly emerge, followed by a carpenter bee, followed by another fly. So far, 4 flies have emerged from this tunnel, but I only saw one carpenter bee emerge.

It looks odd emerging like this, but based on the host and size I think X. tigrinus is the only option.

Moved from Bee Flies.
