Wasp/Bee? - Philanthus

Wasp/Bee? - Philanthus
Rancho Cordova, Sacramento County, California, USA
July 18, 2012
Size: 6-7 mm
85 F. Sunny. Wind gusts 3-4 MPH. Yellow cuckoo bee? Like a male bee - lots of cruising behavior. Very fast. Feeding on Eriogonum nudum in large numbers. American River Parkway. I caught it with a Bug Wrangler and chilled before taking photos on a paper plate near a different Eriogonum. Bee was not harmed. Photo makes it look greenish, but it was very bright yellow.

Moved for expert attention
Moved from Crabronidae.

Sorry for the double move. After looking around a bit, I decided to play it safe. It could be a crabronid, but it also resembles some specimens of Nomada. I'll let the experts sort it out. :)

Family Crabronidae
Genus Philanthus I think but I'm no expert.

Philanthus Wasp
From what I read and the behavior I obeserved this matches the "Beewolf."
Thanks.

Wasp
I'm not an expert on wasps but I can tell you that this is not a cuckoo bee :). I think this is a hunting wasp of some sort, but not sure what it hunts :P
