Big black Arizona bug/beetle - Derobrachus hovorei

Big black Arizona bug/beetle - Derobrachus hovorei
Phoenix, Maricopa County, Arizona, USA
July 18, 2012
Size: About three inches long
Found this bug about 9 pm last night on the second floor walkway to our condos in north central Phoenix, Arizona, about 5 miles northeast of downtown Phoenix. The bug seemed quiet and did not move when I slid the quarter into the frame and started shooting with my Canon dSLR.

Moved from ID Request.
