Beetle in the Black Hills - Lytta

Beetle in the Black Hills - Lytta
Harney Peak, Custer County, South Dakota, USA
July 1, 2006
This beetle was at the very top of Harney Peak in SD. It appeared to be more metallic in person than it shows up in the picture. It was between an inch and an inch and a half long. I have looked in field guides trying to identify it, but I'm no expert. It is very beautiful and I would appreciate anyone identifying it for me.

Lytta sp. (Meloidae)
One of the famous "Spanish flies", whose "Cantharidine" chemical is said to thave... hmm, say, very special virtues (but is in fact very dangerous for the uninary tract).
