Araneus? - Metepeira labyrinthea

Araneus? - Metepeira labyrinthea
Bessemer, Jefferson County, Alabama, USA
July 26, 2012
Size: ~1cm in pictured position
I've been taking pictures of this critter for a few days now, and it's time to stop thinking of it as "the spider" and figure out what it is. Its body shape makes me think of a Cross Spider, but I can't get a view of it that clearly shows a cross (I'm not saying I've seen one but haven't been able to photo it -- I haven't been able to see one). So I'm thinking it's some kind of Araneus, but haven't come across a picture that matches it yet.

If anyone knows and can help shorten my search, I'd appreciate the help. I'll be including 2 more pictures taken of this spider, on different days with different light. One of the pics is of the spider's belly, but it's not a great shot.

Thank you!
