Order Phasmatodea? - Megaphasma denticrus - Male
Bella Vista, Arkansas, USA
August 2, 2006
Size: 7.5" (longer w/antenna)
will narrow down the specific place for this stick bug. I really thought the colors were interesting.

Moved from Walkingsticks.

Male Megaphasma.
This is indeed a walkingstick, the "giant" walkingstick, Megaphasma denticrus, probably the largest species in the U.S. I can tell it is a male by the claspers at the end of the abdomen, and the various spikes on the legs used to grip the (larger still) female during the prolonged coupling characteristic of so many phasmids. A neat find.
