Red fly on Goldenglow - Adejeania vexatrix

Red fly on Goldenglow - Adejeania vexatrix
Dunraven near Estes Park, Larimer County, Colorado, USA
August 3, 2006
There were lots of these flies feeding on Goldenglow.

Wow!
Stunning photo!

Ditto.
I know nothing of these flies, but this is one fantastic image.

Tachinid
Check thisout and Tom Murray's submission too.

Yes
This is it. And the Adejeania genus is monotypic. Paradejeania is closely related and has one species with two subspecies and the one in Colorado is different from the one in California.

Moved
to guide.

Tach
This is certainly a different species from the pictured Paradejeania. Much more elongate mouthparts. And I think that is a monotypic genus. May be related. I will have to check the catalog at home.

Oh
And I forgot to add that this is a superb shot as well.

Paradejeania rutiloides (Tachinidae)
